U.S. condemns 'horrifying' Israeli attack that set Palestinian tent encampment ablaze

Palestinian camp ablazeThe Biden administration on Tuesday condemned Israeli airstrikes on a hospital compound in the Gaza Strip that ignited a nearby tent encampment where displaced Palestinians had sought refuge.

At least four Palestinians were killed and dozens of others, including children, were injured in the Monday night attack, which set tents ablaze and reportedly sent survivors fleeing from one tent to another. Videos appeared to show one man being burned alive.

“The images and video of what appear to be displaced civilians burning alive following an Israeli air strike are deeply disturbing and we have made our concerns clear to the Israeli government,” said Sean Savett, a spokesman for the National Security Council.

TVNL Comment: These people were set ablaze with American bombs. Oh my, that's so disturbing, isn't it? Let's keep supplying Israel with their genocide tools, and then say it's 'so disturbing.' Harris is handing the election to a madman.  That, too is disturbing.

Fire breaks out at Gaza hospital after Israeli strike

Fire at Gaza hospitalWhat we know

  • A Hezbollah drone attack overnight at a military base in northern Israel killed at least four people and injured 61 more.
  • At least 20 people, including children, were killed in an Israeli strike at a Gaza school, according to two hospitals. Meanwhile, explosions hit outside Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah, killing three people and injuring about 50.
  • The U.S. has approved deploying the THAAD missile defense system in Israel along with U.S. troops to operate it, deepening America's involvement in the conflict ahead of Israel's expected retaliatory strikes against Iran.
  • U.N. peacekeepers in southern Lebanon will "remain in all positions," according to Stéphane Dujarric, spokesperson for Secretary-General António Guterres. The comments come after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu urged the UNIFIL force to leave the area after one of its outposts came under repeated attack by the Israeli military.

Zelenskiy says North Koreans fighting with Russians in Ukraine

Zelensky says N. Koreans fighting with Russians in UkraineUkrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Sunday that defence relationships with his country's partners would have to change in light of North Korean transfers of people as well as weapons to Russian forces in Ukraine.

The Kremlin on Thursday dismissed South Korean assertions that North Korea may have sent some military personnel to help Russia against Ukraine and might be weighing a bigger deployment.
"We see that the alliance between Russia and such regimes as the North Korean one is getting stronger," Zelenskiy said in his nightly video address. "This is not just about the transfer of weapons, this is in fact about the transfer of people from North Korea to the armed forces of the occupiers.
"It is obvious that under such conditions our relationship with our partners needs to evolve," he added. "The front line needs more support. We are talking about more long-range capabilities for Ukraine and more sustained supplies for our forces rather than a simple list of military hardware."

Israeli Forces Kill At Least 21 In Lebanon While Separately Incinerating Dozens In Gaza

Israelis kill Palestinians everywhereAn Israeli airstrike hit an apartment building in northern Lebanon on Monday, killing at least 21 people, according to the Lebanese Red Cross.

There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military and it was not clear what the target was. The strike hit a small apartment building in the village of Aito, which is part of the country’s Christian heartland in the north and far from the Hezbollah militant group’s main areas of influence in the south and east.

Videos from Lebanese media showed a large plume of smoke rising from the hilly village, with several destroyed cars next to a severely damaged building, as people tried to remove bodies from beneath rubble and trees.

The strike came a day after a Hezbollah drone attack on an army base in northern Israel killed four soldiers — all of them 19 years old — and severely wounded seven others in the deadliest strike by the militant group since Israel launched its ground invasion of Lebanon nearly two weeks ago.

Ukraine denounces Russia's reported execution of captured troops

Ukraune troops executed

Ukraine's human rights ombudsman has denounced the alleged execution of nine captured Ukrainian troops by Russian forces in the Kursk border region.

Dmytro Lubinets said he had written to the United Nations and the Red Cross about the allegations, accusing Moscow of breaching "all the rules and customs of war".

The intervention follows reporting by Ukrainian battlefield analysis site DeepState, which published drone footage purporting to show the dead troops who it said were drone operators. Officials in Russia have yet to comment on the allegations.

Kyiv is believed to have deployed thousands of troops into the Russian border region since it launched its shock incursion earlier this summer.

DOJ silent as families of Americans killed in West Bank, Gaza demand it investigate

DOJ silent on Americans killed in West bank by Israelis

Less than two months after Hamas’ assault on southern Israel last year killed around 1,200 people, including more than 40 Americans, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland was asked what the Justice Department was doing in response.

“We always investigate the deaths of Americans,” Garland told reporters in November 2023. “We are actively investigating the deaths of the Americans using all the tools available to us.”

For the Americans killed by Hamas, Garland’s Justice Department followed through. In September, the attorney general announced charges against six leaders of Hamas, which the U.S. has designated a terrorist organization. Garland also condemned Hamas’ recent killing of a half dozen hostages, including Israeli-American Hersh Goldberg-Polin.

Christopher Columbus may have been Spanish and Jewish, documentary says

Mausoleum of Columbus

A 20-year genetic investigation of the remains of Christopher Columbus has turned conventional historical wisdom on its head by concluding that the explorer whose voyage to the New World changed the course of global history may have been a Spanish Jew rather than a son of Genoa.

The claim raises the intriguing prospect that the man who played a central part in the creation of Spain’s mighty empire hailed from the very community that his patrons, King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella, expelled from their kingdom in the same year Columbus reached the Americas.

The findings of the investigation were announced on Saturday night during a special programme shown on the national broadcaster, RTVE, to coincide with Spain’s national day, which commemorates Columbus’s arrival in the New World on 12 October 1492.
