New York City’s mayor, Zohran Mamdani, and other local officials on Monday condemned Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after federal officers dragged a man out of a hospital building where he had been taken following an arrest, prompting a crowd of protesters to gather outside, where they clashed with police.

The incident over the weekend has also drawn scrutiny from critics questioning the New York police department’s response at the scene, in relation to New York City’s sanctuary laws, which bar local police from assisting federal immigration authorities in civil immigration enforcement.

The incident unfolded on Saturday night outside the Wyckoff Heights medical center in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn, where dozens began gathering after reports that ICE officers had brought in a man they had detained.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the parent agency of ICE, said in a statement on Sunday that agents had been conducting “a targeted enforcement operation” in Brooklyn that “resulted in the arrest of Chidozie Wilson Okeke”, a Nigerian citizen. The agency said he had overstayed a tourist visa and also had been previously arrested for assault and drug possession, though it did not provide further details.

The Harley-Davidson Motor Company announced it is recalling nearly 90,000 The recall was initiated because the airbox backplate breather port may be blocked, which allows pressure to build up inside the crankcase.

As a result, when the dipstick is removed while the crankcase is pressurized, oil may eject from the fill spout, increasing the risk of injury.

In total, this recall involves 88,039 motorcycles with an estimated 0.4 percent with the above defect..

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) unintentionally published Social Security data for at least 100 health providers, according to multiple outlets.

The department took down its National Provider Directory after The Washington Post flagged the information to CMS officials. The webpage serves to connect seniors with healthcare professionals, and it includes data about more than 7 million providers.

The Hill has reached out to CMS for comment. 

A CMS spokesperson told theMore... Post that the issue stems from providers entering their Social Security data in the incorrect place on the form.

“The agency has taken steps to address it promptly and reinforce safeguards around data submission and validation,” CMS said in a statement to the outlet.

A mass shooting at a Texas apartment complex left two teens dead and 10 people injured, police said.

Early on May 2, Amarillo police responded to a reported shooting at an apartment, where juveniles and young adults had gathered at a party, according to a department news release. The party began at another location and moved to the apartment.

Police said prelTwo boys, ages 17 and 16, died in the shooting, police said. Ten people, whose ages weren't listed, sustained injuries.iminary information indicated several people were asked to leave the original location but later showed up at the apartment complex. They tried to enter the apartment and opened fire using what police described as a “rifle-style weapon.”

The United States has criticised its allies for failing to stop a Gaza-bound aid flotilla that was raided and seized by Israeli naval forces earlier this week.

US Department of State spokesperson Tommy Pigott on Thursday described the flotilla as a “baseless, counterproductive stunt”.

He said Washington expects allies to "take decisive action", including denying port access, docking, departure and refuelling to vessels involved in the mission.

"This flotilla circumvents mechanisms designed to ensure humanitarian assistance is received by civilians," Pigott said in a statement.

"The United States will explore using available tools to impose consequences on those who provide support to this pro-Hamas flotilla and supports our allies’ legal actions against."

A federal judge in Massachusetts on Thursday determined that President Trump’s halt on processing immigration applications for citizens of countries listed under his travel ban was unlawful, granting an injunction on a policy she determined was unfairly leaving thousands in limbo.

U.S. District Judge Julia Kobick, an appointee of former President Biden, tore into a number of Trump administration policies enacted after an Afghan man attacked two National Guard members in Washington, D.C., last year, killing one, as well as a thwarted terror attack.

Trump took a number of actions in the wake of the shooting, including new limits on seeking asylum and pausing all immigration applications, including those to gain a green card or become a citizen.

“These are thin reeds on which to rest an assertion of reasoned decisionmaking. With respect to the criminal acts planned or committed by Afghan nationals, the government makes no argument as to how two serious, but isolated, violent crimes planned by two people from one country is rationally connected with a policy stopping adjudication of benefit applications by people from 39 different countries, as well as applications for asylum by people from every country in the world,” Kobick wrote in the decision.

A federal appeals court late Friday blocked the ability of doctors to prescribe the abortion pill mifepristone through telehealth and dispensed through the mail.

A three-judge panel on the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals sided with Louisiana in a lawsuit against the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The court issued a temporary nationwide injunction that reinstates a 2021 nationwide requirement that mifepristone must be prescribed and dispensed in person.

Mifepristone is one of the two drugs commonly used in medication abortions.

The FDA permanently lifted the in-person requirement in 2023, leading to a surge in pills prescribed over the internet in the wake of the Dobbs ruling that overturned the constitutional right to an abortion.
