Canadian science-fiction author and Toronto native Dr. Peter Watts was reportedly beaten,pepper-sprayed and imprisoned at a US-Canada border crossing in Michigan.
Watts now faces a felony charge for “assaulting a federal officer,” with Watts and his passenger in the car saying that he's completely innocent. The real tragedy here is that Watts could be left in financial ruin from the cost of legal fees, yet he is determined to fight the charges.

The US military has long maintained that the deaths of three detainees at Guantanamo Bay in one night in 2006 were suicides, but to the authors of an exhaustive report on the incident, it looks like anything but.
In a report issued following the completion of the olive harvest in the occupied West Bank, the Land Research Centre said that the occupation authorities burned and uprooted about 1455 olive trees during the harvest season this year, and washed away around 7000 trees since the beginning of the year for the sake of settlement expansion, while settlers attacked more than 5500 other trees.
