Netanyahu rescinds decision to sanction journalists on board Gaza flotilla

Netanyahu rescinds order against journalistsAfter a day in which every single news media outlet in the world seemed to weigh in, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu yesterday rescinded a Government Press Office decision to sanction any foreign journalist who participates in the Gaza Strip flotilla.

GPO director Oren Helman had announced on Sunday that any foreign journalist on the flotilla would be treated as an illegal infiltrator, meaning they would be deported and then barred from entering Israel for 10 years. But yesterday Netanyahu's bureau issued a press release rescinding that decision.

Warming oceans cause largest movement of marine species in two million years

Warming oceans cause largest movement of marine species in two million yearsWarming ocean waters are causing the largest movement of marine species seen on Earth in more than two million years, according to scientists. In the Arctic, melting sea ice during recent summers has allowed a passage to open up from the Pacific ocean into the North Atlantic, allowing plankton, fish and even whales to into the Atlantic Ocean from the Pacific.

The discovery has sparked fears delicate marine food webs could be unbalanced and lead to some species becoming extinct as competition for food between the native species and the invaders stretches resources.

Cost of air conditioning for U.S. troops in MidEast more than NASA budget

The United States spends $20.2 billion annually on air conditioning for troops stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan — more than NASA's entire budget, NPR reported.

TSA defends 'asking wheelchair bound leukaemia sufferer, 95, to remove her adult diaper during pat down'

We've already had complaints against TSA agents of toddlers getting patted down, a woman's breasts being exposed and groping.

Now a 95-year-old woman in the final stages of a battle with leukaemia has been allegedly detained and humiliatingly searched at a Florida airport - and the TSA is defending their actions.

Michele Bachmann benefited personally from federal funds and federal farm subsidies

Michele BachmannRep. Michele Bachmann has been propelled into the 2012 presidential contest in part by her insistent calls to reduce federal spending, a pitch in tune with the big-government antipathy gripping many conservatives.

But the Minnesota Republican and her family have benefited personally from government aid, an examination of her record and finances shows. A counseling clinic run by her husband has received nearly $30,000 from the state of Minnesota in the last five years, money that in part came from the federal government. A family farm in Wisconsin, in which the congresswoman is a partner, received nearly $260,000 in federal farm subsidies.

Sportsmen oppose frackingA new coalition of outdoors groups is emerging as a potent force in the debate over natural gas drilling. The Sportsmen Alliance for Marcellus Conservation isn't against the process of fracking for gas, but its members want to make sure the rush to cash in on the valuable resource doesn't damage streams, forests, and the various creatures that call those places home.

The movement grew out of grass-roots anger as passionate outdoorsmen found their questions about drilling and wildlife brought few answers from local or state officials.

Sir John ScarlettThe then Prime Minister Tony Blair had assigned Sir John Scarlett to write the notorious dossier on Iraq's weapons of mass destruction (WMD) on September 2002.

But, Scarlett, who was head of the Joint Intelligence Committee, sent a memo to Blair's foreign affairs adviser referring to "the benefit of obscuring the fact that in terms of WMD Iraq is not that exceptional".

Joint Intelligence Committee was duty-bound to give impartial intelligence-based advice to ministers, but in this case, intelligence has been misrepresented to make the case for war.

Why are Babies Vaccinated for a STD?

Hepatitis BThe widespread medical practice of administering Hepatitis B vaccines to newborns is something that should sound mental alarm bells.

Why?  Hep B is contracted chiefly by sexual contact, first appearing among male homosexuals then later spreading to the general population by adult heterosexual promiscuity.

Hep B is but one of many STDs, but is not yet an epidemic. Why not vaccinate for common contagions that become epidemics? And  why  subject newborns to their first Hep B vaccination at 12 hours, then a booster shot at 4 months, and another at 4 years when the vaccine 'memory' has faded?
