Reports of a recent study by the Congressional Budget Office, showing that the vast majority of the money in the stimulus package won't be spent until after 2010, have Democrats on the defensive and the GOP calling for a pullback in wasteful spending.
Funny thing is, there is no such report.
Controversial CBO Report On Stimulus Turns Out Not To Exist
ITV and Channel 4 to air Gaza appeal as pressure mounts on BBC
ITV and Channel 4 today announced they would screen an appeal to raise emergency funds for Gaza, as the BBC came under intense pressure from the government to reverse its decision not to transmit the appeal by the Disasters Emergency Committee.
The BBC decision not to show the appeal was reached together with other broadcasters last week. But ITV today said that "the majority" of networks had now agreed to broadcast the appeal.
TVNL Comment: When the networks get together and agree not to air something....how is that not a conspiracy? When this kind of thing is pointed out sites like ours are accused of being "conspiracy nuts", yet here you have open evidence that broadcast networks conspire not to allow the public to see things.
Swiss nuclear smuggling suspect claims CIA link
A Swiss man suspected of being involved in the world's biggest nuclear smuggling ring claims he supplied the CIA with information that led to the breakup of the black market nuclear network led by Pakistani scientist Abdul Qadeer Khan.
In a documentary airing Thursday on Swiss TV station SF1, Urs Tinner says he tipped off U.S. intelligence about a delivery of centrifuge parts meant for Libya's nuclear weapons program.
Pentagon's terror 'recidivism' claims blasted as 'propaganda'
Ever wonder how many of President Bush's terror war detainees were released, only to "return to the fight"?
"Their numbers have changed from 20, to 12, to seven, to more than five, to two, to a couple, to a few, 25, 29, 12, and then 24," quoted Keith Olbermann on Thursday's edition of Countdown.
The latest figure, 61, which was carried unchallenged by CNN, the MSNBC host noted, appears to be nothing but "propaganda."
A study published by Seton Hall Law Professor Mark Denbeaux on Jan. 15 finds the Pentagon wrongly altered its figures on terrorist 'recidivism' 43 times, with the latest figure being "the most egregiously so."
High Omega-6 Fatty Acid Intake Linked to Breast Cancer
The researchers suggested that one explanation for the findings might come from the fact that women with a high consumption of low-fiber bread products also had elevated levels of blood fats and insulin, both of which are risk factors for breast cancer. In the current analysis, low intake of HAs was correlated with a higher intake of bread, cakes and cookies, suggesting that some factor other than HA intake itself might have led to the increased vulnerability to omega-6s.
The self-defence defence
Wartime in Israel is effectively a totalitarian blackout: objectors are denounced as traitors and suppressed or sidelined, while the media almost entirely ignores the consequences of Israeli military actions. This is partly down to self-censorship and partly down to the codes of a military censor.
Most Israelis, in other words, seem to have convinced themselves that their own moral superiority somehow sanctions and justifies their own acts of moral repugnance.
Study: 20 years of conflict has cost Middle East $12 trillion
The report looks at conflict in the entire region from Iran to Egypt, including between Israel and its Arab neighbors, the war in Iraq, tension between Iran and Israel and al Qaeda's activities in the Middle East. It also includes rivalry between the Palestinian organizations Hamas and Fatah.
Much of the discussion at Friday's presentation of the report centered on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the aftermath of Israel's 22-day assault on the Gaza Strip that killed 1,300 Palestinians, wounded 5,000 and left thousands homeless. Israel lost 10 soldiers and three civilians.
Children of Gaza: stories of those who died and the trauma for those who survived
The impact will be felt by many more for years to come. Among the more than 4,000 people injured more than a quarter were children, some left with severe disabilities. The Gaza Community Health Programme estimates that half Gaza's children – around 350,000 – will develop some form of post-traumatic stress disorder.
Doctors: Many Palestinians in Gaza hospitals in danger of dying from their wounds
The doctors were sent by the organization "Doctors for Human Rights", and are to return to Israel on Sunday.
