Ten candidates who made history Tuesday night

Wes MoreTuesday’s midterm results saw several historic firsts across the country.

A record number of Black candidates ran up and down the ballot and across party lines, strides in LGBTQ representation were made and gender barriers were broken.

Here are 10 candidates that broke glass ceilings in their races this year.

Army veteran and best-selling author Wes Moore (D) [above] was elected Maryland’s first Black governor and becomes only the third Black person to be elected governor of a state. He defeated Trump-backed conservative Dan Cox.

Moore rose to the top of his party’s primary in July, when he beat out 10 other candidates. His campaign had the support of celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, and the Democratic Governors Association had invested heavily in his campaign.

The former CEO of one of the nation’s largest anti-poverty organizations, Moore’s win flips the governor’s mansion blue.

Florida Medical Board Votes To Ban Gender-Affirming Care For Trans Kids

Florida Board of Medicine Transgender children in Florida will be barred from receiving hormones or undergoing surgeries to treat gender dysphoria under a rule approved Friday by state medical officials at the urging of Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis.

The Florida Board of Medicine and the state Board of Osteopathic Medicine voted at a joint meeting in Lake Buena Vista to finalize rules governing gender affirming health care for minors. The rule is set to take effect after a weekslong public input period.

Many doctors, mental health specialists and medical groups have argued that treatments for transgender youth are safe and beneficial, though rigorous long-term research is lacking. Federal health officials have described the gender-affirming care as crucial to the health and well-being of transgender children and adolescents.

TVNL Comment:  How cruel and inhumane this is.  DeSantis will run for president on 2024.  That, too, would be cruel and inhumane for the nation.

The settlement still needs to be approved by the bankruptcy court and voted on by the approximately 475 survivors in the case. That process is expected to take about six months.
