Almost half of the world's primate species – which include apes, monkeys and lemurs - are threatened with extinction due to the destruction of tropical forests and illegal hunting and trade.
In a report highlighting the 25 most endangered primate species, conservationists have outlined the desperate plight of primates from Madagascar, Africa, Asia and Central and South America, with some populations down to just a few dozen in number.

Bomber hits Iraq checkpoint
A suicide car bomber in Iraq has struck a vehicle checkpoint in the city of Ramadi, killing at least 10 people, including police and civilians.
Thursday's attack also left 15 people wounded. Security officials said four policemen and a young girl were among the dead.

Report on Marines' water omitted cancer chemical
An environmental contractor dramatically underreported the level of a cancer-causing chemical found in tap water at Camp Lejeune, then omitted it altogether as the Marine base prepared for a federal health review, an Associated Press review has found.The Marine Corps had been warned nearly a decade earlier about the dangerously high levels of benzene, which was traced to massive leaks from fuel tanks at the base on the North Carolina coast, according to recently disclosed studies.

Nato 'ill-equipped to prevent Afghan civilian deaths'
Nato is ill-equipped to probe accidental loss of life or prevent further civilian deaths during its latest offensive in Afghanistan, Amnesty International warned today.
