Scalia and Thomas dine with healthcare law challengers as court takes case

Scalia and Thomas dine with health care opposersThe day the Supreme Court gathered behind closed doors to consider the politically divisive question of whether it would hear a challenge to President Obama’s healthcare law, two of its justices, Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas, were feted at a dinner sponsored by the law firm that will argue the case before the high court.

The occasion was last Thursday, when all nine justices met for a conference to pore over the petitions for review. One of the cases at issue was a suit brought by 26 states challenging the sweeping healthcare overhaul passed by Congress last year, a law that has been a rallying cry for conservative activists nationwide.

Ohio Issue 2: Controversial Anti-Union Law Defeated By Voters

Issue 2 defeated in OhioWhile Tuesday's elections haven't gotten nearly the attention that a candidate for next year's presidential election has, voters across the country were casting ballots on races that mattered to them locally and had implications nationally.

Even as Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain was holding a nationally televised news conference to rebut sexual harassment allegations from the 1990s, a measure in Ohio to overturn the anti-collective bargaining measure that Republican Gov. John Kasich signed into law earlier this year was being interpreted as a barometer of next year's presidential election.

Whit House Iraq GroupAnother revisionist memoir is about to reach the book stores of America.  Condoleezza Rice, like several of her neocon cohorts, has written a memoir to salvage her legacy of deceit and duplicity as the nation's National Security Adviser and Secretary of State during the Bush/PNAC years..

Predictably, and with the complicity of reviewers in the corporate media, a near decade of shame and evil will morph into the benign portrait of an American champion of liberty and democracy in a nation that could afford her No Higher Honor.

Anita Perry’s Political Baggage

Anita PerrySince 2003, Mrs. Perry has worked for the Texas Association Against Sexual Assault (TAASA), where she’s raised roughly $1.5 million as a $60,000-a-year contract employee during her eight-year association with the organization, Deputy Director Torie Camp tells The Daily Beast.

This summer, a report in the Austin American-Statesman noted that a significant portion of Mrs. Perry’s salary at TAASA comes indirectly from the governor’s “political donors, state contractors, and companies that do business with the state or have issues before the legislature.” Indeed, of 37 major donors to the organization, the paper reported, only three have “no ties to the governor or state business.”
