west bank teen killed after rushing guard with knifeA 13-year-old Palestinian girl was fatally shot by police after she reportedly rushed at a guard brandishing a knife.

According to police spokeswoman Luba Samri, Ruqayya Eid Abu Eid left her home in the village of Anata early Saturday after fighting with her family. She allegedly left home carrying a knife "intending to die." Around 8 a.m., she arrived at the settlement of Anatot, about a mile away. She allegedly ran towards the civilian guard at the entrance, who opened fire. The New York Times reported security footage appeared to confirm Samri's statement.

Arson Suspected in Fire at Israeli Rights Group's Office Building in Jerusalem

B'Tselem arsonA fire broke out on Sunday evening in a building that houses the office of human rights group B'Tselem, in Jerusalem's Makor Haim neighborhood.

The fire department said they suspect an arson was the cause of the fire.

Firefighting crews rescued a person who was trapped on the fourth floor of the building, a fire department spokesperson said. One person was lightly wounded from smoke inhalation and evacuated to Shaare Zedek Medical Center, Jerusalem.

The spokesman said that the fire has been contained and efforts are being made to extinguish the flames.

Israel indicts Jewish extremists in deadly arson

Israel aresonists arrestedIsrael on Sunday indicted four Jewish extremists suspected in a July arson attack on a Palestinian home that killed a toddler and his parents — a case that has been unsolved for months and helped fuel the current wave of Israeli-Palestinian violence.

The long-awaited indictment follows months of investigations into a web of Jewish extremists operating in the West Bank. The indictment named Amiram Ben-Uliel, 21, as the main suspect in the attack. A minor was charged as an accessory. Yinon Reuveni, 20, and another minor were charged for other violence against Palestinians.

Mexican mayor slain one day after taking office

Mexican mayor slainThe mayor of a municipality in Mexico was slain by armed men inside her home on Saturday -- one day after taking office.

Gisela Mota Ocampo was sworn into office Friday to lead Temixco, a city of nearly 100,000 people 60 miles south of Mexico City.

The attackers entered her house Saturday morning while her family was present and killed her in the doorway, said Alberto Capella, Morelos state security commissioner, at a press briefing.

UK Iraq veterans 'may face prosecution'

UK vets make face prosecution for war crimesUK soldiers who fought in the Iraq War may face prosecution for war crimes, according to the head of a unit investigating alleged abuses.

Mark Warwick said there were "lots of significant cases" and that discussions would be held over whether they met a war crimes threshold.

Lawyers are continuing to refer alleged abuse by soldiers to the Iraq Historic Allegations Team (IHAT).  The Ministry of Defence said it took such allegations "extremely seriously".

Putin names United States among threats in new Russian security strategy

Putin and ObamaA new appraisal names the United States as one of the threats to Russia's national security for the first time, a sign of how relations with the west have deteriorated in recent years.

The document, "About the Strategy of National Security of Russian Federation", was signed by President Vladimir Putin on New Year's Eve. It replaces a 2009 version, endorsed by then- President Dmitry Medvedev, the current prime minister, which mentioned neither the United States not NATO.
