Al Qaeda has become the world's "first terrorist nuclear power without demonstrating possession of a single nuclear weapon," according to US expert Brian Jenkins. 
However, he noted how while Al Qaeda's operational capabilities were being "degraded" by the combined action of intelligence services and law enforcement organisations around the world, its so-called media jihad was "increasing in volume and sophistication".

 Iran rounded up hundreds of Arabs to help the United States counter al Qaeda after the Sept. 11 attack after they crossed the border from Afghanistan, a former Bush administration official said Tuesday.
