Most Anti-Environment House of Representatives in History Tries to Do More Damage

US House of RepresentativesTea Party leaders in the House have dramatically stepped up their assault on America's environmental and public health safeguards. Last week alone they used about 50 floor votes and more than 30 policy riders on spending bills to undermine the protections that keep our air safe, our water clean, and our public lands intact.

Another barrage of anti-environment bills is on its way. The upcoming debate in the full House on funding for the Environmental Protection Agency and the Interior Department will likely feature votes on even more policy riders designed to prevent the government from upholding basic environmental standards.

Les Hinton, 67, who has worked for the tycoon for 52 years, has resigned from his post as chief executive of Dow Jones, which publishes the Wall Street Journal.

No religion: What was Lennon summoning? For starters, a world without "divine" messengers, like Osama bin Laden, sparking violence. A world where mistakes, like the avoidable loss of life in Hurricane Katrina, would be rectified rather than chalked up to "God's will." Where politicians no longer compete to prove who believes more strongly in the irrational and untenable. Where critical thinking is an ideal. In short, a world that makes sense.

NoW phone-hacking whistle-blower Sean Hoare found dead

Sean Hoare, NoW whistleblowerA former News of the World journalist who made phone-hacking allegations against the paper has been found dead. Sean Hoare had told the New York Times the practice was far more extensive than the paper acknowledged when police first investigated hacking claims.

Hertfordshire Police said the body of a man was found at a property in Langley Road, Watford, on Monday morning. A police spokesman said the death was currently being treated as unexplained, but was not thought to be suspicious.

Federal medical marijuana memo stirs angst in industry

Medical marijuanaIn October 2009, medical marijuana advocates celebrated a U.S. Department of Justice memo declaring that federal authorities wouldn't target the legal use of medicinal pot in states where it is permitted.

The memo from Deputy U.S. Attorney General David Ogden was credited with accelerating a California medical marijuana boom, including a proliferation of dispensaries that now handle more than $1 billion in pot transactions.

Phone Hacking: Scotland Yard Senior Officer John Yates resigns

John Yates resignsOne of Scotland Yard’s most senior officers, John Yates, has resigned over his handling of the phone hacking scandal and his links to Neil Wallis, the former News of the World executive.

The Metropolitan Assistant Commisioner fell on his sword after a day of turmoil at Britain's biggest police force. Mr Yates resigned after being told he would be suspended as his conduct was being referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

UK authorities mimic CDC by revealing self-defense strategy for when 'zombies' invade

Remember when the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released a bizarre and cryptic warning back in May warning Americans to prepare for a "zombie apocalypse" (http://www.naturalnews.com/032454_z...).

Well now authorities in the UK have apparently done the same thing, with supposedly "top secret" reports revealing contingency plans should there be an "outbreak" of zombies.

Obama picks bank critic Cordray for consumer job

Richard CordrayPresident Barack Obama on Sunday chose former Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray to head the new agency charged with protecting U.S. consumers from abusive mortgage lending practices and hidden credit card fees.

The pick allows Obama to sidestep some of the controversy he would have faced had he nominated Elizabeth Warren, who is credited with conceiving the idea for the new consumer agency but is viewed by many on Wall Street as a foe.
