But focusing on the privacy of the average Joe in this way obscures the deeper threat that warrantless wiretaps poses to a democratic society. Without meaningful oversight, presidents and intelligence agencies can -- and repeatedly have -- abused their surveillance authority to spy on political enemies and dissenters.
Tories call for full Iraq inquiry
Speaking on BBC1's Andrew Marr show, Mr Hague said "clarity" was needed on the future for Britain's deployment in Iraq.
And he demanded: "It is very important to commence the full-scale Privy Council inquiry into the origins and conduct of the war, because if we are not going to start it now, five years on from the beginning of the war, then when on earth would we have such an inquiry?
Toxic world fallout from Iraq invasion
"Bush's foreign policy has been a failure and it will be judged on Iraq. He will bear responsibility for an unnecessary and costly war that violated international law, alienated allies and distracted us from the core issues of terrorism, Afghanistan and stopping the spread of nuclear weapons.
"This has to be the worst managed foreign policy of any president since the Second World War. Even if in the medium term Iraq becomes comparatively peaceful, would it be worth the cost? I do not think so."
Wall Street fears for next Great Depression
One UK economist warned that the world is now close to a 1930s-like Great Depression, while New York traders said they had never experienced such fear. The Fed's emergency funding procedure was first used in the Depression and has rarely been used since.
TVNL Comment: The private bankers that control our currency created the last depression and they are creating this one. It is their method of pretty much acquiring your assets and buying up everything of value at a bargain. You want to stop this madness? End the Federal Reserve and execute everyone responsible for it's continued existence and anyone who suggests that we bring it back!

"Bring your soldiers Mr. Bush," Correa said during a heated speech late Thursday. "Let it be your soldiers who die along the southern border with Colombia. We'll see if the Americans, the citizens of the United States will accept tremendous atrocity.
"If not, shut your mouth and understand what is happening in Latin America."

Abbas: Israel guilty of ethnic cleansing
"Our people in Jerusalem are under an ethnic cleansing campaign," he said. "They are suffering from a series of decisions like tax hikes and construction prohibitions."

Sydney Conference: 9/11 - Physics and Findings: Challenging the NIST Report
"The official explanation for a string of events surrounding 4 hijackings, the collapses of WTC 1, 2 and 7 and the attack on the Pentagon are anomalous or involve such a large number of unlikely individual events that when strung together are so statistically improbable as to be impossible. These anomalies are in some cases so blatant that one has to question the professional competence of the explainers -- or indeed, their independence and disinterestedness" Dr Leifer said.
Bush Spending U.S. Tax Dollars to Foment Unrest in Bolivia
Documents show that Washington is backing Right-wing opposition to Bolivia's democratic reforms.
Much of that money is going through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). In July 2002, a declassified message from the U.S. embassy in Bolivia to Washington included the following message: "A planned USAID political party reform project aims at implementing an existing Bolivian law that would . . . over the long run, help build moderate, pro-democracy political parties that can serve as a counterweight to the radical MAS or its successors." MAS refers to Morales's party, which, in English, stands for Movement Toward Socialism.
