Discrimination by Insurers Likely Even With Reform

Any health-care overhaul that Congress and President Obama enact is likely to have as its centerpiece a fundamental reform: Insurers would not be allowed to reject individuals or charge them higher premiums based on their medical history.

But simply banning medical discrimination would not necessarily remove it from the equation, economists and health-care analysts say.

Afghan in Police Uniform Kills U.S. Soldiers

An Afghan wearing a police uniform shot and killed two American soldiers and wounded two others during a joint patrol in eastern Afghanistan on Friday, Afghan officials said. The man later escaped.

A spokesman for the Interior Ministry said Afghan and American officials were investigating whether the attacker was a police officer or a militant dressed as one.

On Palestinian civil disobedience

Since 2004, 19 people, about half of them children, have been killed in protests against the barrier. The rights groups found that in four small Palestinian villages – Bil’in, Ni’lin, Ma’sara and Jayyous – 1,566 Palestinians have been injured in demonstrations against the wall.

In five villages alone, 176 Palestinians have been arrested for protesting against the annexation, with children and youth specifically targeted during these arrest campaigns. The actual numbers of those who were injured and arrested are no doubt greater considering that these are just the incidents that took place in a few villages.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad revealed to have Jewish past

A photograph of the Iranian president holding up his identity card during elections in March 2008 clearly shows his family has Jewish roots. A close-up of the document reveals he was previously known as Sabourjian – a Jewish name meaning cloth weaver.

The short note scrawled on the card suggests his family changed its name to Ahmadinejad when they converted to embrace Islam after his birth.

The Wizard of Beck : David Brooks

But this is not merely a story of weakness. It is a story of resilience. For no matter how often their hollowness is exposed, the jocks still reweave the myth of their own power. They still ride the airwaves claiming to speak for millions. They still confuse listeners with voters. And they are aided in this endeavor by their enablers.

They are enabled by cynical Democrats, who love to claim that Rush Limbaugh controls the G.O.P. They are enabled by lazy pundits who find it easier to argue with showmen than with people whose opinions are based on knowledge. They are enabled by the slightly educated snobs who believe that Glenn Beck really is the voice of Middle America.

Iran's Nuclear Program: Iran truthful, in treaty compliance; US/Israel lying, in treaty violation

President Obama is a lying sack of spin, along with the Republican leadership for their silence in the face of these transparent lies. The US is out of compliance of the international standards of NPT, not Iran. The US and Israel threaten regional stability, security, and opportunity for Iran. The US is unaccountable, holding NPT as an empty promise, and actively instilling fear for the future.

Obama agrees to keep Israel's nukes secret

President Obama has reaffirmed a 4-decade-old secret understanding that has allowed Israel to keep a nuclear arsenal without opening it to international inspections, three officials familiar with the understanding said.

The officials, who spoke on the condition that they not be named because they were discussing private conversations, said Mr. Obama pledged to maintain the agreement when he first hosted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House in May.

Herschel Space Observatory scans hidden Milky Way

A remarkable view of our Galaxy has been obtained by Europe's billion-euro Herschel Space Observatory. The telescope was put in a special scanning mode to map a patch of sky.

The images reveal in exquisite detail the dense, contorted clouds of cold gas that are collapsing in on themselves to form new stars. Herschel, which has the largest mirror ever put on an orbiting telescope, was launched in May as a flagship mission of the European Space Agency.

Judge says CIA can cover up destruction of interrogation tapes

A judge cited national security concerns in ruling Wednesday that the CIA does not have to release hundreds of documents related to the destruction of videotapes of Sept. 11 detainee interrogations that used harsh methods.

TVNL Comment: They have to hide how they created the false confessions and the myth of what happened on 9/11.
