9/11 rememberedTwenty-four years after Sept. 11, 2001, Americans remember the nearly 3,000 lives in the terror attacks at the World Trade Center in lower Manhattan, at the Pentagon and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

The remembrances are being held during a time of increased political tensions. The 9/11 anniversary, often promoted as a day of national unity, comes a day after conservative activist Charlie Kirk was shot and killed while speaking at a college in Utah. Follow along for live updates.

Many in the crowd at ground zero held up photos of lost loved ones as a moment of silence marked the exact time when the first hijacked plane struck the iconic twin towers.

Family members then read aloud the names of the victims, with many giving personal remembrances, well wishes and updates on their lives.

Zoe Doyle, daughter of Frank Joseph Doyle, said her family created a nonprofit in his honor that’s built schools in South Africa and is feeding and educating thousands of children.

Manuel DaMota Jr. said he remembers his father and namesake, Manuel DaMota, not just with grief, but with gratitude for the example he set.

“In a world filled with division and conflict, I do my best to honor my father by choosing connection, empathy and hope,” he said.

Fire Commissioner Robert Tucker M Chief of Department John Esposito laid a wreath at the Firemen’s Monument as the nation marks 24 years since the terror attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

Mass protests Labor DayLabor unions and community activists gathered for mass protests on Labor Day, the latest in a series of demonstrations against the Trump administration.

On a holiday set aside to recognize and honor the contributions of American workers, hundreds and sometimes thousands turned out in rallies and political protests across the country on Sept. 1, aiming to demonstrate the power of the working class.

Large crowds turned out at rallies and marches in major cities including Boston, Chicago, Detroit, New York and others. More than a thousand "Workers Over Billionaires” themed events were planned nationwide.

The protests drew mostly modest crowds in smaller cities around the country, from Scottsdale, Arizona, to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Several of the involved organizations also helped set up the other large-scale protests of the summer, including No Kings Day in June and Good Trouble Lives On in July.

The Justice inspector general concluded that Mr. McCabe was not forthcoming during the review, reported The New York Times, which first broke the story.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller's office said Friday that a grand jury indicted 13 Russian nationals and three Russian entities for alleged interference in the 2016 presidential elections, during which they boosted the candidacy of Donald Trump.

The indictment says that the defendants by early to mid-2016 were "supporting the presidential campaign of then-candidate Donald J. Trump ... and disparaging Hillary Clinton."

The indictment said "the organization," known as the Internet Research Agency LLC, "sought, in part, to conduct what it called 'information warfare against the United States of America' through fictitious U.S. personas on social media platforms and other Internet-based media."
