The U.S. Justice Department has obtained a court order directing Twitter to turn over information about the accounts of activists with ties to Wikileaks, including an Icelandic politician, a legendary Dutch hacker, and a U.S. computer programmer.

Birgitta JĂłnsdĂłttir, one of 63 members of Iceland's national parliament, said this afternoon that Twitter notified her of the order's existence and told her she has 10 days to oppose the request for information about her account since November 1, 2009.

"I think I am being given a message, almost like someone breathing in a phone," JĂłnsdĂłttir said in a Twitter message.

The 2703(d) order is broad. It requests any "contact information" associated with the accounts from November 1, 2009 to the present, "connection records, or records of session times and durations," and "records of user activity for any connections made to or from the account," including Internet addresses used.

TVNL Comment: The use of the word "ties" has been undefined for a generation. We have heard the Bush administration use that term to claim victories when they murder people because they have "ties" to terrorist organization. Well a "tie" could be anything, including buying a stick of gum from a store that gave money to a religious organization that funded a gathering at which a person identified, by the US government, as an al Qaeda member, was present. And people fall for this crap! Careful...who knows what you will be called for following TvNewsLIES.org on Twitter!!!
