Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba on Tuesday vowed Japan's continued support for Ukraine to achieve a "just and lasting peace" in his first face-to-face meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Ishiba, who attended the Group of Seven summit in Canada's Kananaskis, said Japan will host an international conference to discuss the issue of landmines in the war-torn Ukraine on Oct. 22, according to the government.
Zelenskyy explained the war situation in his country and its future plans, the Japanese government said, without providing further details.
Zelenskyy visited Canada to attend part of the two-day G7 summit through Tuesday. U.S. President Donald Trump was also in Canada, but returned home earlier than scheduled on Monday.
