Every system is perfectly designed to produce exactly the results it produces.
Research indicates our existing public health system is designed to produce an increasing number of mass shootings, along with 20,000 gun suicides and 10,000 gun homicides annually and a tragic number of unintentional shootings involving children.
The results are not caused by one particular feature of our system, but by all the parts acting together. Our cultural norms frequently promote violence over nonviolent conflict resolution, and there are 300 million firearms in the hands of civilians.
Mental health services fail to adequately diagnose and treat the mentally ill, and it is also our duty to protect the rights of law-abiding gun owners.
And yet, this is a problem that can be solved, a system that can be fixed.
But the leadership of the NRA remains a roadblock to resolution, telling people we are not dealing with a complex system and don’t need any research to be able to fix things.
In fact, they have stopped legitimate scientific research and data collection.
TVNL Comment: ....and they own a large majory of the legislators in every elected office in the nation. Wonder why.
