The Nevada gambler, al-Qaida, the CIA and the mother of all cons

Six years later, Playboy magazine has revealed that the CIA fell victim to an elaborate con by a compulsive gambler who claimed to have developed software that discovered al-Jazeera broadcasts were being used to transmit messages to terrorists buried deep in America.

Dennis Montgomery, 56, the co-owner of a software gaming company in Nevada, who has since been arrested for bouncing $1m worth of cheques, claims his program read messages hidden in barcodes listing international flights to the US, their positions and airports to be targeted.

Both the media and the US government, in chorus, continue to point to the 9/11 attacks and the role of Al Qaeda led by "terrorist mastermind" Osama bin Laden.

Neither is there evidence that Afghanistan as a Nation State was behind or any way complicit in the 9/11 attacks.

U.S. officials say top al-Qaida leader killed

A “high-ranking” al-Qaida figure was killed Thursday in an attack by a drone aircraft in northwest Pakistan, U.S. officials told NBC News.

The officials did not identify who was killed, except to say that it was not al-Qaida’s supreme leader, Osama bin Laden. If the report is confirmed, it would be the first time coalition forces had killed a top al-Qaida figure in almost a year.

Tipsters in Moussaoui case still quarreling over FBI reward

The FBI has belatedly awarded $100,000 to a former Minnesota flight school manager whose phone tip eight years ago led to the arrest of al Qaida conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui, but the bureau gave nothing to a man widely credited as a second tipster.

The reward to Tim Nelson amounts to 2 percent of the $5 million bestowed in January 2008 on an instructor at the Pan American International Flight Academy, where Moussaoui was taking lessons in flying a 747 jumbo jet before he was detained.
